After graduating from high school in Mühlhausen in 1893, he studied theology and philosophy at the University of Strasbourg and became a vicar at St. Nicholas Church in Strasbourg in 1899.
It wasn't until 1905 to 1913 that Albert Schweitzer studied medicine in Strasbourg with the goal of working as a missionary doctor in French Equatorial Africa.
