The Maginot Line was a defensive system along a line of bunkers along the French border with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy. The system is named after French Defense Minister André Maginot. It was built from 1930 to 1940 to prevent or repel attacks from these neighboring countries.

Western part of the Hochwald Ouvrage - still impressive and well preserved, and even integrated into the hiking trail. Please note: narrow stairs without balustrade.
