The highest castle in the Palatinate, at 571 meters above sea level, is located right on the border with Alsace in France. It impresses with a very well-preserved upper castle and, due to its height, offers a perfect panorama over the gently rolling hills of the Wasgau.

  • The highest fortress of the Palatinate - demensprechend is the view and also the rise. But the climb is definitely worth it.
In July 2017 a lot of construction sites on the fortress.

  • The Wegelnburg as the highest castle ruin of the Palatinate definitely has the best panoramic view of the Wasgau.

If you want to know more about the castle, you can check out Noh's video, which is always very interesting (but definitely not scientifically proven). I like watching the videos again and again. They convey details that I can see for myself during my own visits.

  • Can I just join the previous speaker ... it was just breathtakingly beautiful when we were there. The wintry mood looked like a fairy tale. The path to the castle is easy to walk on. In the castle itself, you should be very careful in winter, as there is ice and snow on almost all levels. I'm curious how it looks there in the summer!

  • At first the castle path itself, of which this castle is a part, fascinates. Especially on the Wegelnburg the view to the Palatinate Forest is outstanding and probably not to be found anywhere else.

  • One has this view of the Wegelnburg, if one climbs these and goes to the northern end of the castle.
