In the 13th century, a new settlement formed on the edge of the old town due to the influx of new residents from the surrounding villages - the "New Town". The settlement became a town in 1410 when it was granted town rights by Count Heinrich. The administration of the new town remained largely independent until the old and new towns were united in 1529.
