Hiking Highlight
The Kaiserturm is a lookout tower on the 477.8 m high Armeleuteberg, which rises south of Wernigerode. The tower was designed by the princely Stolberg master builder Paul Kilburger, financed by the Wernigerode hotelier Edmund Lührmann and erected between May 29 and September 1, 1902 in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The building blocks mainly come from the Königsberg quarry near Schierke. In 1992 the 12 m high tower was completely renovated and made accessible again.
The view from the tower stretches across the northern Harz to the Brocken, the Büchenberg and the Harburg. The view to Wernigerode with the Wernigerode Castle is particularly striking.
Since 2014, the Kaiserturm as the Rapunzelturm has been the end point of the Wernigeröder Märchenweg, which runs from the Hasseröder holiday park to the Armeleutepark. (Source: Wikipedia)
