The climb overcomes perhaps 10 meters in altitude over a length of 40 meters.
Then it goes slightly downhill for about 35 km, repeatedly through tunnels and over viaducts. The tunnels give you a nice cooling experience, and the gradient to the south means you can go at a good speed with very little effort. My most beautiful section of the CAAR

The Pontafelbahn, Italian Pontebbana, is a nearly 89-kilometer, double-track electrified railway line between Udine and Tarvisio in the course of the railway connection from Venice to Villach. It crosses the southern Alps in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In the 4-kilometer section Udine-PM Vat the track is so far only a single track.
Since November 2000, a new line with a completely new route and a top speed of 180 km / h in operation. From Udine to Carnia, the railway has largely the same course that existed until 1995, while the route was completely re-routed from Carnia to Tarvisio. Only in the station Pontebba, in the area of the station Ugovizza Valbruna and at the state border with Austria at Thörl Maglern one meets on the old route. At a distance of 49.1 km, there are 40.6 km of tunnels between Carnia and Tarvisio. About the new line need from Udine station to the Tarvisio Boscoverde station long-distance trains in good track conditions only about 45 minutes, while the journey over the old route was about 100 minutes.
