Besides the five towers of the city gates, there were 41 city wall towers, and after 1643, 39 towers on the ring wall as well as 18 outer works on the upstream zwinger wall, which were defended by the craft guilds and some by the mining association.
From the Meissner Tor to the Donatstor, there were seven towers and three small outer works in the zwinger wall. Among them was a water tower, under which the Münzbach flowed out of the city. Today, the Lazarett Turm, opposite the hospital, and the ruin of the Irischen Turmes can still be seen.
