Ostróda, meaning "Osterode in East Prussia" in German, is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Protected by a castle of the Teutonic Order built at the end of the 13th century, a settlement grew thanks to Central German immigrants. In 1329, the Christburg Commander granted the town charter as Osterode by granting it the charter of the city.

Situated in a charming landscape, amidst numerous lakes (Drewenzsee, Pausensee, Schmordingsee) and extensive forests, Osterode was one of the most beautiful towns in East Prussia and was rightly called the "Pearl of the Oberland." Since 1952, it has been sponsored by the town of Osterode am Harz. This memorial stone commemorates this.
