Very popular photo opportunity in the old town of Osterode am Harz, children love to sit on the donkey.

“This striking bronze sculpture stands in a pedestrian zone in front of the old town hall in Osterode. It is reminiscent of an important trade in the city in times past and depicts a pack donkey loaded with a sack of grain and its handler. These donkey drivers once supplied the residents of the Upper Harz mountain towns with bread grain, which was stored in the Harz grain store in Osterode. The donkey drivers worked as independent grain traders and organized themselves into their own guild.”

The donkey's ears are already shining golden! Probably many people hope for luck and have touched their ears for it.
