1288 was a decisive year in Düsseldorf's history: Following the Battle of Worringen, the settlement on the Düssel, then small, was granted city rights by Count Adolf V.
To commemorate this historic moment, the City Elevation Monument was unveiled for Düsseldorf's 700th anniversary.
The detailed bronze sculpture by artist Bert Gerresheim from 1988 depicts scenes from the Battle of Worringen, the sealing of the city charter, and the elevation of the parish church, consecrated to St. Lambertus, to a collegiate church.
The monument can be found in Düsseldorf's Old Town, at the corner of Josef-Wimmer-Gasse and Müller-Schlösser-Gasse.

Because it commemorates the Battle of Wringen. Where the citizens of Düsseldorf and Cologne fought with the Count von Berg (Solingen Castle) against the Archbishop of Cologne and won! Unfortunately, the citizens of Cologne have suppressed that ;-)
