The widow of the merchant and mayor Thomas von Campen had one of the most magnificent houses in town built in 1594.
The building reaches back to the retaining wall of the upper town. The elaborate facade with column structure and figure decoration is considered the most important building of the Weser Renaissance in Minden. From the middle of the 17th century the city scales and the district court were located here until it was returned to private ownership in 1859.In 1933 the businessman Herrmann Hagemeyer bought the building and converted it into a department store.
