The house looks older than it is. In 1909 the businessman Hermann Schmieding erected the building with its picturesque facade for his wife.

The couple had married in Hildesheim Cathedral and his wife had fallen in love with the Bone Crusher office building there.

Based on this building, the impressive house on the market in Minden was built.

The wooden frieze shows pictures from Minden's history.

Haus Schmieding in Minden is a historic building on the south side of the market square.
It was built in 1909 by the merchant Hermann Schmieding for his wife.
The house is an outstanding example of historicism and incorporates architectural elements from past styles, particularly the Nordic Renaissance.

The facade features elaborate woodwork, a striking bay window and a steep roof, all features of the Nordic Renaissance style. In addition, the richly decorated plant ornaments on the facade show Renaissance influences and also include elements of Art Nouveau.

A special feature of Haus Schmieding is the frieze above the ground floor, which depicts scenes from Minden's history in silhouette. These include the baptism of Widukind in 785, the wedding of Henry the Lion in 1168 and the arrival of the first train in 1847.
