Interesting information about the history of today's green space between Nordstadt and Neureut. It used to be an airfield and Zeppelins used to land here. After the site was returned from the US armed forces to the city of Karlsruhe in 1993, the local council fortunately decided not to build on the site.

The sandy soil here is very poor in nutrients. This created a unique natural area in the Upper Rhine Graben for many species of birds, butterflies and flowering plants. Designated as a nature reserve since 2010.

At the southern entrance to the old airfield you will find interesting information about the former use of the parade ground.
A zeppelin landed here for the first time in 1911.
