Tips

  • Sausewind

Small lookout tower with interesting orientation marks on the railing, for example sunrise and sunset on the solstice days or direction and distance to Kehl, Strasbourg, Vienna or Lima. The view is stunning.

Do the wind whistles properly above. If not there in summer, pack well.

Two towers were built on the Hornisgrinde, the Hornisgrinde and the Signal Tower, which are often confused:

In its current form, the 7 m high Bismarck Tower has stood on the highest point of the Hornisgrinde since 1871. The former signal tower stands directly on the boundary of the municipalities of Sasbach and Sasbachwalden.

The 23 m high Hornisgrinde tower was built in 1910 by the Badischer Schwarzwaldverein as a lookout tower at the southern end of the Hornisgrinde ridge.

  • Ein 🐟 namens Wander

Small lookout tower, which makes something a bit meager right next to the gigantic radio tower, but it is even longer there.

A small, cute turret from which you have a very nice overview of the raised bog.

At the highest point of the Hornisgrinde is the 7 m high, built in 1840 Bismarckturm. In 2000, it was renovated and made accessible by an external spiral staircase. Here you can enjoy wonderful far and wide views of the surrounding Black Forest mountains and the Rhine valley.

The tower is not too high, but you have a wonderful view over the Rhine plain, the surrounding high moor and on the other side towards the Biberkessel.
There is always some wind up here.
