Botanical Garden Eschwege - history of origin

Eschwege, like many cities in Germany, was still part of the city until 1867

surrounded by a city wall. Part of the city fortifications ran along Mauerstraße. Around 1880, the Pflug nursery was established here, which gradually expanded by building greenhouses and other buildings

has been enlarged. After giving up the nursery, the city of Eschwege acquired the property and began systematic planting.

An old postcard from 1957 already shows part of the new park, initially surrounded by a hornbeam hedge and with a wooden gate to Gartenstrasse

was completed. Research in the municipal archive revealed that the name "Botanical Garden"

for the first time in 1966 on one
