The market church of St. Dionys, also known as the Old Town Church, is the parish church of the Protestant parish of Eschwege-Altstadt in Eschwege in the Werra-Meißner district of Hesse. The market church is the oldest church building in the city and was built in the 15th century on the site of several previous buildings in the Gothic style. It was originally under the patronage of Dionysius of Paris, the first bishop of Paris to be martyred in the 3rd century. A very beautiful church 😊

The market church is a late Gothic three-aisled hall church. The oldest part - the west tower - dates from the 13th century, the Schaeffer organ in Knopel style from 1678. The princely crypt was built in the choir room in 1626 at the instigation of Moritz the scholar, Landgrave of Hessen-Cassel. The church has hidden many treasures. If you look closely, you will discover great paintings, panels and stories on the church windows.
Behind the altar, a flap in the floor leads to the crypt in which the landgrave and some relatives are buried. However, this tomb can only be visited on special occasions. Four of the Landgrave's relatives (including two grandchildren) are buried in magnificent coffins.
