"... 1927-29, 1949-51 With the incorporation of Mülheim into Cologne in 1914, the construction of a permanent bridge instead of the previous ship bridge was contractually agreed. The design finally implemented at the urging of the then Mayor Konrad Adenauer consists of a cable suspension bridge (this as Reference to the Carlswerk) with two large portal pillars and a continuous, curved roadway girder. With a span of 315 m, the bridge was the longest in Europe up to that point. After the war was destroyed, the bridge was renewed as a real, earth-anchored suspension bridge and was therefore similar in appearance to the Rodenkirchner Bridge (before the extension).In addition to the river, the building, painted in the characteristic "Cologne Bridge Green", also crosses the wide Riehler Rheinauen on the left bank of the Rhine, which are among the most popular stretches of the Rhine in the Cologne city area.
