This gate is not part of the original ramparts. It was built much later due to increased traffic in and out of the city.

Denmark's Port, the youngest gate in the ramparts, dates from 1924 and was also designed in the neoclassical style by the architect Oscar Gundlach-Pedersen.

In addition to the fact that North Port and Denmark's Port are based on the same architectural style and were designed by the same architect, there are also clear visual parallels in the round shape of the arch and the two smaller, separate pedestrian arches that symmetrically flank the main passage.

Norway's Port, however, is a closed gate, while Denmark's Port has no "ceiling" and instead consists of freestanding walls with columned vaults.
