The Mermaid Flutes are the world's first bathing facility for visually impaired and blind bathers, offering the opportunity for a bathing experience in a safe environment.
The facility is primarily intended for the blind and partially sighted, but must be used by anyone who feels unsafe walking in the water. The mermaid flutes are made up of a series of long steel rods that form a snail pattern above and below the water, with a rope attached between each rod to guide the bather safely around the water and back to the beach. So that the bath snail can also be experienced in the dark, the guide rods were made with LED lights at the top.The facility got its name after some kindergarten kids thought the bath snail, as it was originally called, looked like a mermaid flute.
