The Memorial Floyd H. Chesmore is located on the Gaendijk in Moerzeke-Kastel (a sub-municipality of Hamme). This monument honors American First Lieutenant and pilot Floyd H. Chesmore, who lost his life there during World War II when his bomber crashed.

The mission: Pilot Floyd H. Chesmore (26 or 27 years old, from Montana) was flying a B-17G "Flying Fortress" from the 92nd Bomber Command of the US Air Force. The crew was on their way back to their base in England after a heavy bombing mission on the marshalling yard of Frankfurt am Main.
