The street called ‘den dam’ runs from the cemetery, at the ‘dark chapel’, down towards the church and was first paved in the year 1868. Anyone who walks here, over the old cobblestones, past the old houses, walks over one of the oldest streets in Sint-Amands. The famous poet-writer Emile Verhaeren also often walked here and probably found the inspiration for his poem ‘Mon Village’, my village, in which he tells about ‘den dam’.

Hiking

The comparison with 'The Golden Street' of Prague where Kafka lived is perhaps a bit too far-fetched, but still.
Especially the narrowed part of the Dam has something picturesque.
It is quite pleasant to stay here.
The Sahara corner house is certainly a true discovery. With a little imagination you can make long journeys at this house.
