The Tielrodebroek is a controlled flood area or pot polder, located at the confluence of the Scheldt and the Durme. You can enjoy mud flats and salt marshes, with reed beds, willow forests and extensive hay meadows. Many water birds, such as ducks and blue herons, have their home here.

The nature reserve is accessible all year round on the hiking trails. A walking dike runs around the potpolder.

In 1976, a major flood disaster occurred at this location. As a result, the low-lying polders were transformed into a controlled flood area. For the Sigma Plan, a ring dike of approximately 8 metres high was constructed. In 2 places, the dike remains lowered to 1 metre, so that the water can flow into the polder via a sluice system during storm surges. In this way, the inhabited areas behind it remain protected.

The land in the potpolder itself is cultivated as fields by local farmers. It is a nature reserve where various animal species like to stay. There is even a breeding pole for storks in the middle of the polders.

On the walking dike you can find two (or three?) panels with poetry.

They are part of "Closer to the dike", a poetry route along the dike section Steendorp-Temse-Tielrode-Elversele.

13 poetry panels are the result of a poetry competition in which local poets were inspired by the medieval story of Reynaert the fox.

On 23 June 2024, the route was officially inaugurated with poems by Erika De Stercke, Melissa Bocklandt, Geert Gerlo, Koen De Clercq, Tony van der Zand, VRpdm, Luc Deceuninck, Gerry Van Wouwe, Ella Dedroog, Chaïnez Lifungula, Patrick Verdonck, Annemie Muyshondt and Tony Peirsman.
