The Point India observation tower can be reached from the hiking car park at the end of the tarred road in about 200 meters. Care should be taken on ice and snow on the viewing platform, as there is a risk of slipping. A visit to the observation room below is recommended, there is a large bilingual information board about the former US camp OP-India, which was abandoned in 1991 and dismantled in 2001. Only the observation tower remained, has been a monument since 2017 and gives its name to the premium hiking trail P21 Point India.
The descent through the forest in the direction of the former German-German border is recommended with good shoes. In the Thuringian town of Ifta, in the immediate vicinity of P21 Point India, there is another border security structure used by the National People's Army during the Cold War, a BT-6 as a command post for border troops in the event of border violations.
