Janne Callens married twice. The homestead and smithy of her second husband, Michiel De Coene, was nearby 'ter weehaghe'. She assisted in childbirth as a midwife, but in general had a bad reputation. Janne Callens was arrested on suspicion of witchcraft on August 17, 1607. She managed to escape, but was arrested again. She confessed and was burned at the stake on October 2, 1607. She was 61 years old

At the end of the Lagen Heirweg in Laarne is the memorial “Galgeneed”. Janne Callens was burned alive on the nearby gallows field on October 2, 1607, together with Willemyne Sveermans. Two other “witches” previously suffered the same terrible fate.
