Historical overview:Frauenalb is a monastery ruins surrounded by some houses in the upper Albtal, just below Bad Herrenalb on the district of Marxzell in the district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg.The ruined monastery Frauenalb, "Frouwen Albe", is the most important baroque monastery in northern Baden. Today, the church is considered a hallmark of the Northern Black Forest and used for cultural events such as the traditional monastery days and classical concerts.Frauenalb was around the year 1190 as a noble Benedictine convent of Count Eberhard III. founded by Eberstein, whose father Berthold III. already in 1148 the Cistercian monastery Herrenalb had donated. The monastery was reserved only for women of noble families. The nuns have often been housed in Frauenalb at an adolescent age.
