The Schapener Graben is dammed from November to July in order to soak the meadows of the Weddler Graben lowlands. This prolonged flooding causes a deliberate delay in plant growth in the grassland area.
Thus, many animal species also find a habitat that otherwise does not exist in Riddagshausen!
