There are still a few such wooden loading ramps in the Black Forest. These usually consist of a dry stone wall, which has a ramp on both sides. The delimbed logs were dragged up the ramp by workhorses so that they lay parallel to the path. The carter then parked his car close to the stone wall and the logs could now easily be rolled onto the car with lever bars. Back then there weren't any vehicles with hydraulic loading cranes.
