Originally built to supply water to the high-altitude Dobel households, the tower now serves as a lookout tower. On the 1st floor it also houses an information room about the Black Forest Central/North Nature Park.

Equipped with new windows at the top, it offers a 360-degree view. Panoramic images are displayed below the windows to show what you can see when the weather is good. The tower is open from April to October from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.

From mid-August 2019, a mobile shelter in the style of a bus station at the foot of the tower and one at the mouth of the path further down was built again. Also suitable for mattress and sleeping bag, especially the lower one, as the open side is wind resistant.
