Specially designed house facades were an expression of bourgeois prosperity at that time. The entrance areas, in particular, received special attention. The Ritterhaus, one of the most beautiful restored half-timbered buildings in Salzwedel, is a vivid example. In the portal of the building, decorated with detailed low-relief carvings, a young and an old knight in armour can be seen. The artistic representations can be attributed to the Renaissance. The original half-timbered house was built in 1596. The interior of the building was converted into a modern private home in 1993. The historic facade has been preserved to this day.
