The Blankaart Observation Tower

From this lookout tower you have a beautiful view of the De Blankaart nature reserve. When the weather is clear you can enjoy beautiful panoramas. Certainly do!

Come walk and cycle along marshes and meadows, or take a boat trip on our whisper boat in the De Blankaart nature reserve. The area is located in the IJzervallei, between Oost-Vleteren and Diksmuide, in the province of West Flanders. The visitor center is located in the beautiful Blankaart Castle. You will find child-friendly bike rides and walks through the Blankaart swamp and along the Blankaart pond. Boardwalks take you to bird watching huts and a lookout tower to watch the birds in peace. If the water in the area is high enough, a whisper boat will take you silently through the swamp. This way you can explore the area without disturbing the animals and numerous birds, including spoonbills.

The Blankaart is located on the right bank of the Yser, above Diksmuide. Once the habitat of the otter, now a paradise for nature and its lovers. The Blankaartpad takes you past beautiful bird watching places in these wet polders. At dusk you can hear the peculiar foghorn sound of the bittern here. Between April 15 and September 15 you can sail on the whisper boat and enjoy life in the Blankaart swamp. You will find all the information you need in the impressive castle, which has been set up as a Provincial Visitor Centre.
