Two locks are in Hohensaaten today. This is where Oder-Havel-Kanal and Oder meet. When a new Oder dike was built in the 19th century, a solution had to be found to overcome the difference in height between the old and the new Oder. With the construction of the first lock in Hohensaaten (Ostschleuse) in the years 1853 - 1858, ships on the Oder as well as in the Oder-Havel Canal were able to gain new momentum. Soon a single lock was no longer enough. West of the old lock was created in 1876 the "Finow-lock Hohensaaten" (West Lock). Today it connects the Oder-Havel Canal with the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Waterway parallel to the Oder.
