»Guardian III«

The archaic-looking sculptures are guardians of the landscape here at X3. All three are located about 700m apart between Dreikönigsstein and Metzebacher Höhe, in places that offer a clear view of the countryside. The four-meter-tall bird-like creatures watch over the plants, people and animals of the landscape with a wide view. The works, subtly different but still in the same style, clearly show the inspiration from the art of indigenous peoples; work stays and study trips took the artist to Africa, Arabia, Asia and America. Like the cult figures, which mostly represent deities, these sculptures are symbolically simplified to their essential features and this is precisely what gives them their power of expression, their immediacy and liveliness. "... time seems to have congealed in the woodwork. The slim, tall figures are gender-indifferent and the individual is restrained. … Each of them claims its own sphere of influence, and yet it is only when they are related to the others that diverse ambivalences arise” (Dr. Ingrid Maut).
