Marenice / Großmergthal is a beautiful village with a lot of half-timbered houses, mostly well renovated, partly still unrenovated (some probably also empty), the baroque parish church of St. Mary Magdalene and the three-part group of statues depicting St. Wenceslas, the crucified Jesus and St. Nepomuk pose.

Mařenice (Gross Mergtal) lies in a wide valley of the Svitávka (Zwittebach) stream about 4.5 km northeast of Cvikov (Zwickau) and 7.5 km northwest of Jablonné (Deutsch Gabel). Also part of the municipality are Mařeničky (Klein Mergtal), Dolní Světlá (Niederlichtenwalde) and Horní Světlá (Oberlichtenwalde) with the settlement of Myslivny (Jägerdörfel). The town also includes the single layer Čtyřdomí (Four Houses) on the old road to Krompach (Krombach), the Liščí domky (Fuchshäuser) on the road to Heřmanice (Hermsdorf), part of the abandoned Třídomí (Three Houses) settlement and Antonínovo Údolí (Antoniethal). As of January 1, 2015, the community had a total of 340 residents.
