The depiction of the two fighting deer at the entrance to the arboretum is the work of the Berlin sculptor Johannes Darsow, who had the cast made by the Martin & Piltzing foundry, which still exists today. The sculpture was commissioned by the Braunschweig state government for the benefit of the officials of the Third Reich and erected in May 1935 for the inauguration of the Jägerhof.

There are rather large figures of fighting deer on the stone pedestal.
