    On the initiative of King Wilhelm I of Württemberg, several thousand sequoias were raised from seeds in Wilhelma in Stuttgart from 1864 and planted in exposed areas from North Württemberg to Lake Constance. This nationwide plantation became known as "Wilhelma-Saat".
