The monastery Hirsau was a Benedictine monastery in Hirsau in the northern Black Forest. Mostly one means thereby the plant pc. Peter and Paul. In a broader sense, however, the term also includes its predecessor.
Hirsau (formerly also Hirschau) was at times one of the most important monasteries in Germany. It served the Cluniac reform movement very early as a German base. From here a number of monastery foundations went off, but also the renewal of existing communities after the so-called Hirsauer reform. At the time of its construction in the late 11th century St. Peter and Paul was the largest monastery in the German-speaking area. During the Palatinate War of Succession burnt the plant in 1692 and then fell.
At the monastery is a great cafe: PLEASE taste the ice cream from the "farm" here. That's LEGENDARY! Since the big come with L or H not ran!
