This is probably a sentry post that was used in front of the castle on the approaching ridge with a much better view. When the castle was settled there was no forest around the castle, so you had the best view of the Nagold Valley from here. In earlier history, between the 13th and 16th centuries, four or five castles are said to have stood here.
