King William IV (1765 – 1837), King of Hanover and Great Britain, was the third son of King George III. and was born in Windsor near London. With his death in 1837, the 123-year personal union between Hanover and Great Britain ended. Originally the square and the obelisk were hidden and inaccessible in the forest.
