In 1696 the Karlsburg was built, also called the 4 Towers House, and is now a city palace in the spa gardens.

Built in 1696 by Johann Karl von Thüngen and severely devastated and uninhabitable during the French Revolutionary Wars.

After 1817, it was extensively renovated and converted into a luxury hotel, which has had Tsar Alexander II of Russia as a prominent guest, among others.

Today, the building houses an outpost of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for Data and Information.

In 1845, a new bathhouse was added to the west of the hotel, which was fed with thermal water. In 1956, a comprehensive renovation and complete internal reconstruction took place after the planned demolition of the building was prevented by intervention by the State Monument Preservation Office. In 1968, the bathhouse was closed and the spa gardeners used the bathhouse as a storage shed. In 2008, the bathhouse was renovated and a restaurant and a theater hall for the Casablanca cabaret were built.

UPDATE: During the night of July 3, 2024, the roof structure caught fire and the building, which was to be converted into a hotel, was massively damaged.
