Today we wanted to visit the Höfchen in Tiefental.

You have to go there 🚴👍🍺

A wonderful garden with a great selection of food and drinks.

We then drove further to Niederhausen. There was a duck race 🐥 on the Appelbach stream.

It was rather quiet due to a lack of water.

Today we found a new route home from the Rhine.

The route from Hangen-Wahlheim to Gau Odernheim is also really beautiful.

It leads away from traffic on farm roads through vineyards and fields.

But be careful: before Wintersheim, there is a long (approx. 1.5 km) unpaved section!

      Quite passable in dry weather

Coming from Ahrweiler, we took the ferry across the Rhine to Linz.

We continued along the right bank of the Rhine to Neuwied, where we crossed the bridge.

      We then returned via Andernach.

The first 15 km from Ahrweiler towards the source were a challenge in every respect. Even four years after the flood, this section remains a massive construction site.

Bridges are being rebuilt, and the Ahr Valley Railway line is being repaired.

It's not a great drive, and seeing the destruction isn't

The government bunker was built in the 1960s in a former railway tunnel (through which, incidentally, trains never ran).

It was intended to serve the German government from nearby Bonn as a nuclear-proof shelter in the event of war.

It was decommissioned in the 1990s.

A tour of the bunker is worthwhile
