It's always nice to combine a visit to the hairdresser in Schornsheim with the weekly market in Nieder Olm.
When the weather is as great as this afternoon, it's almost like a day's vacation.

Today was a lap around northern Rheinhessen on the program. It should have been a bit cooler (32 degrees in September are awesome)
But the rest of the week is planned with work.

Because of Karin's poor health, we decided today for a tour without any inclines.
From Ginsheim it went first through the Mönchbruch nature reserve to almost the airport and then through the Hessian Ried back to the Rhine. On the Rhine dam we then drove back to Ginsheim, where we visited the ship mill.
It is depressing to see how the trees in the Mönchbruch wither. Apparently trees are felled to at least limit the infestation by the bark beetle.
Large piles of wood lay everywhere. Sad...

Because of the dry summer, the water level in the Edersee is currently 22 m below normal.
The dam is only 19% full.
In large parts you can walk on the lake bottom.
The Eder flows as a small river in your old bed.
Real gorges become visible and in other places there are imposing elevations that are otherwise several meters under water.

From the Edertalsperre it goes almost continuously off the road through the Ederauen to Fritzlar.
      Highly recommended tour!

Today we drove from Hemfurt to Buhlen.
This is where the bike path begins on the former railway line to Korbach.
A dream for every cyclist: perfect surface, easy ascent and a great view.
At the former Netze train station, you can take a break and refill your calories.
After a few kilometers it went downhill through the wonderful Reiherbachtal to Nieder-Werbe.
There the brook usually disappears into the Edersee. At low tide, however, it meanders for miles through the dried-out lake bed. WORTH SEEING!
