The refurbishment of the ruins has apparently been largely completed and the ruins can be entered again.

The renovation concept, developed by the Office for Castle Research by Dr. Joachim Zeune, provides for careful conservation and protection of the remains of the wall that have been preserved. The original construction of a chapel could be proven, which was extended twice in the course of the 15th century to the current dimensions of the church. In addition to the western work and the remains of the nave wall, the excavated remains of the wall are also to be preserved and made visible.

All measures are closely coordinated with the monument protection in order to do justice to the historic site. The renovation started in spring 2020.

The church ruins are part of a desert area that is located in the area of today's Weilroder district Altweilnau. The desert marks the remains of a small village that was first mentioned around 1350 and in a document around 1480.
Around 1515 the village developed into a local pilgrimage site. The parish was abolished as early as 1535, and partial desolation is documented for 1556. The former pilgrimage church “Our Lady of Landstein” will be destroyed and not rebuilt. The stones were removed and used for the construction of the Huguenot church in Usingen. The ruins of the west tower with two two-story side rooms have been preserved. Today the church tower ruins can be found next to the Landsteiner Mühle.

Unfortunately we could only visit the ruin behind a fence, we would have loved to have a closer look.
