Herwartstein Castle once stood on a steep rock spur above Königsbronn. The Staufer built a small stone fortress, which changed hands repeatedly over the years. In the late 13th century this castle also came into the possession of the Counts of Helfenstein. However, when the rule is withdrawn from them, the castle falls into disrepair. The castle was demolished in the 14th century to enable the Königsbronn monastery to be built with the stones.
Today you will find a great view of Königsbronn and the surrounding area above the miserable foundation walls.

If you are already in Königsbronn or Brenztopf you should enjoy the good cake in the "Café refined".

Very nice panoramic view over Königsbronn.
Access via the path at the ruin, or from the dirt road via the tampel path through a short humped piece of forest
