With the connection of Görlitz to the Saxon and Prussian railway network in 1847 and the construction of the 475 m long Neiße viaduct, a small train station was initially built, built by master bricklayer Gustav Kießler. The increased rail traffic and the expansion of Görlitz as a transport hub made it necessary to build a new station at the beginning of the 20th century.

The station post office was completed in 1915 and the large reception hall in 1917. The ceiling paintings there were reconstructed and restoration work began as early as 1984.

Hiking

The station opened in September 1847 in the Neo-Renaissance style. It was an important junction in rail traffic.
The first renovation took place between 1867-1869, and the second between 1906-1917. It was continually enlarged as the volume of traffic continued to increase.
It is the easternmost train station in Germany.
