The Ernst-Haeckel-Höhe is one of the most beautiful vantage points
in the mountains around Jena.
The German zoologist Ernst Haeckel, who lived from 1834 to 1919, was one of the most brilliant scientists of his time. Haeckel became known for his outstanding achievements in the field of natural and plant research as well as for his arrangement in the dissemination of the Darwinian theory of evolution in Germany.

The Ernst-Häckel-Höhe can also be hiked from the stone cross at the upper end of the Ziegenhainer valley (hiking car park) and you can then largely stay at the height of the Wöllmisse.(Source: outdooractive.com)
