  • The church of St. Laurentius, a Gothic brick building, is usually just called the town church by Havelbergers. It is located on Havelberg's city island in the immediate vicinity of the market square and town hall.

It is a striking structure on the city island and, together with the St. Marien Cathedral, characterizes the cityscape of Havelberg from the south. Church services are held regularly in the St. Laurentius Church during the summer months. It is also used for events of a musical nature.

There are no records of the exact age of the church.
From today's point of view, the beginning of construction is assumed to be around 1300, a first written mention of the church in 1340 connects with the foundation of side altars.

The church on the town island is divided into a west tower, a three-aisled nave and a choir closed on five sides of the octagon. In the 15th century, a two-story porch with a tower dwelling was built to the west of the tower.

In 1459, a votive tablet with a crucifixion relief was added next to the west portal, above which there was an atonement cross. In the 17th century, additions were added to the north and south sides of the choir. Inside the Church of St. Laurentius there is a wooden cross vault.

After the Reformation, the chancel had a flat coffered ceiling. The approximately 70 portraits contained therein were probably plastered over around 1750. They disappeared when the wooden cross vault was installed in the roof space in 1854 and were only discovered in 1989 during roof repairs.

There were always changes to the church of St. Laurentius due to fires, lightning strikes, wars and the too soft subsoil of the city island.
