Probably around 100 AD, the Romans built a fort in front of the Limes and protected by moats, which connected with the nearby fortress Burg Wersau near Reilingen and the towns of Weiher, Karlsdorf (Altenbürg), Staffort, Hagsfeld and Kleinrüppur was.
