Gelpe and Saalbach unite in the lower Gelpe Valley, known as the Zillertal, and shortly afterwards flow into the Morsbach, one of the larger tributaries of the Wupper.

After entering the Gelpe Valley, we are determined by the element of water. Especially after these three dry summers and so many pathetically dried up stream beds, this abundance in the truest sense of the word, which accompanies us on the next four kilometers, is simply touching and impressive.
Not only the Gelpe itself has an immense amount of water, also from every side valley and from Siefen there are rushing little brooks towards Gelpe. The course of the raging brook is only interrupted by the ponds that appear regularly, sometimes several in a row.
From the 17th century onwards, the various hammers in which metal was processed were located on these. (Feb. 2021)
