The Gruhlsee is one of the smaller lakes in the Ville lake chain and is a nutrient-poor, calcareous body of still water near Brühl-Heide. Like all other bodies of water in the chain, the Gruhlsee is an artificial residual lake with shallow water zones created by former brown coal open-cast mines, surrounded by larger forest areas with mixed trees typical of the location. Poplars, pines, red oaks, larches, alders, beeches, robinias and birches alternate. Source: Wikipedia
