The lake was created through open-cast mining and is part of the Rhineland Nature Park. The average depth is 1.3m. The deepest point is approx. 4.3m. The lake is not suitable for swimming. The lake has a small island in the middle where numerous species of birds but also wild boars can be discovered. (of course not always)
