This square is home to both the St. Bartholomew's Church (19th century), renovated in neo-Gothic style, and the town hall with stepped gables and corner turrets. The statue of Manneken Pis against the town hall is said to be the oldest in Belgium (1455). In the building there is a small museum (in the tourist office) with his costumes. The Gothic fountain (1475) in front of the town hall bears the name Marbol.

Geraardsbergen is a small, charming town with a vibrant cultural life, located along the banks of the Dender in the most southeastern corner of the Flemish Ardennes.
In addition to a historic city center with traces of a rich industrial past, Geraardsbergen has a flourishing commercial center and many charming restaurants. Nevertheless, you will find the necessary peace in Geraardsbergen thanks to the rural environment and nature, the quiet area and the forests. The hilly landscape is typical for the entire region of the Flemish Ardennes.
One of the most famous residents of the city is Manneken Pis. This peeing boy has been standing on the Market Square of Geraardsbergen for almost 6 centuries - about 160 years longer than his Brussels brother.

The redesigned market square (in the first decade of the 21st century) houses a beautiful town hall with the oldest Manneken Pis on the front, next to the stairs; The fountain 'Marbol' and the Gothic Church of St. Batholomeus. You will also find various drinks and eateries. The market forms a short 'plateau' of relief when climbing the wall. Departing from the Denderbrug, the riders usually ride via the bridge street to the market, then a short nasty climb to the left of the church via the old horse market to the Vesten ... a cobblestone strip with an 'acceptable' gradient that was redone in 2009. Do not lose too much strength on the Vesten, because it is only above the Vesten to the right that you start the real ascent of 'the wall' via a part of the Pachterstraat...
