Markt van Geraardsbergen

This square is home to both the St. Bartholomew's Church (19th century), renovated in neo-Gothic style, and the town hall with stepped gables and corner turrets. The statue of Manneken Pis against the town hall is said to be the oldest in Belgium (1455). In the building there is a small museum (in the tourist office) with his costumes. The Gothic fountain (1475) in front of the town hall bears the name Marbol.

The redesigned market square (in the first decade of the 21st century) houses a beautiful town hall with the oldest Manneken Pis on the front, next to the stairs; The fountain 'Marbol' and the Gothic Church of St. Batholomeus. You will also find various drinks and eateries. The market forms a short 'plateau' of relief when climbing the wall. Departing from the Denderbrug, the riders usually ride via the bridge street to the market, then a short nasty climb to the left of the church via the old horse market to the Vesten ... a cobblestone strip with an 'acceptable' gradient that was redone in 2009.
